Fireplace Recipes

Fireplaces add an air of intimacy to a room.  Having dinner by the fireplace is a wonderful time to spend the evening. In the old days the fireplace serves as a stove as well but this posed a great risk for fire.

With the advent of home electric fireplaces,  the risk went down to a minimum and almost nonexistent with regular maintenance.  Although you cannot cook over the faux fireplace,  you can always fix this by putting an electric grill on a table by the fireplace.  Or you can use your stove or an electric broiler.  This makes cooking easier as well as lessen burn injuries due to uncontrolled fire level and avoiding gunk in your fireplace.

There are some recipes that can liven your evenings by the fireplace. One of these are S'mores.  This is ideal for casual parties with kids as well as adults.  You will need marshmallows,  flat chocolate bars and graham crackers.  Toast the marshmallows until it's golden brown,  then sandwich  with two graham crackers, adding a piece of chocolate while the marshmallows are still hot to melt them a bit.  You can spread peanut butter on the graham before making the sandwich for added flavor or for variation,  chocolate graham can be used.

Fireplace cocoa is a wonderful match for the S'mores.  You will need whole milk,  heavyweight whipping cream,  bittersweet chocolate, cinnamon, and sweetener such as sugar, honey or maple syrup.  You can let the adults make their own blend.  Children may need assistance to lessen the mess or keep the mix in moderate taste.  Place some chunks of bittersweet chocolate in a mug,  add your choice of sweetener, pour heated milk over the chocolate and stir until it's melted.  Top it with whipped cream and serve.

Another great fireplace drink is mulled apple cider.  This is not only delicious but also makes the house smell wonderful.  You will need apple cider or apple juice,  cinnamon sticks,  whole cloves and an orange. Put them all in a large saucepan and simmer over medium heat for around 20 minutes and serve warm.

A wonderful Christmas treat that's easy to make is pie-iron apple pies.  You'll need butter,  two slices of bread and apple pie filling.  Butter one side of the bread and place it on the pie iron with the buttered side down.  Place apple filling on the center of your bread and cover it with another slice of bread with the buttered side facing upward.  Close the iron and grill the fire until golden brown.  This would take about 4-5 minutes depending on the fire.

Home electric fireplaces are not just for heating up a room,  or for making décor statements.  They can also be a focal point for gathering of families and friends. Or you can make it an excuse to make these easy to make but delicious desserts that can be enjoyed by everybody.  You can even do this during summer with your flames dancing but with the heater turned off just for effect.  For more recipes, you can visit our website at www.
