Home Electric Fireplaces and Feng Shui
Feng Shui means wind water literally. It is an ancient study made by the Chinese on how our surroundings affect us.
There are several methods for applying Feng Shui to your home. The most common method applies the relationship of the five elements – metal, fire, wood, wind, and earth. The basic principle of Feng Shui states that these elements represent harmony in their balanced state, each element may strengthen or weaken each other elements. If one element is too much or another element is not enough, this can lead to a block in the flow of energy and produce a negative chi.
There are specific rules about the placement of these elements in the home. If you place these representative of elements in the wrong place, you are believed to have invited misfortune by blocking the flow of energy or producing an imbalance in the energy flow.
Fireplaces represent fire. They produce heat and surround the room with comfort and stillness. It is said that fire element stirs up passion and intimacy. The warmth combined with the sound of crackling wood provides comfort and relaxation to one or two but if there are more people, it is more stimulating than relaxing.
If you already bought a home electric fireplace and installed them without consulting a feng shui expert, you're in luck as because home electric fireplaces are portable and you can transfer them anywhere in the room with a working power outlet in case there is something wrong with the placing.
There are certain computations that needs to be made in order to determine the best placing of furniture and appliances in a house. Some of these factors include the year the house was finished, the direction the front door is facing, the year the owner is born, and so on and so forth. However there are general rules that anybody can follow as well.
Chi would flow freely if the area in front of the fireplace is not obstructed. Keep the energy radiating outward freely. This would also help everybody enjoy the fire. If you plan on putting chairs in front of the fire, try not to put them too close as it would be uncomfortable if anybody would sit there for too long.
Televisions are unwelcome in rooms with fireplaces. If it is necessary, try to conceal them when not in use by placing them in cabinets with closing doors or use a pull down projector screen. Make sure that the cables and wires of the television are not visible.
The best location of a fireplace for you home is along the south wall. The southwest, northeast, east and southeast are also good locations. Don't put it in the northwest.
Putting a fireplace in the center of your room, is said to drain energy as the center should be clear or neutral. To neutralize this detrimental effect, you can place a water feature such as a fountain near the fireplace. If this is not possible hang a seascape painting over the fireplace.
